If you weren’t excited about Amazon Prime Video‘s Mr & Mrs Smith series before, then the first official trailer, with the charms/chemistry of both Donald Glover (AKA Childish Gambino) and Maya Erskine on full display, might change your mind.

In this adaptation of the 2005 film with real-life divorced couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, two lonely strangers land jobs working for a mysterious spy agency that offers them a glorious new life — espionage, wealth, world travels, and a dream brownstone in Manhattan.

The only catch? Acquiescing to an arranged marriage as John (Glover) and Jane (Erskine) Smith. Now hitched, the titular newlyweds are forced to navigate a high-risk mission just about every week, while also facing new relationship milestones.

As per the official synopsis: “Their complex cover story becomes even more complicated when they catch real feelings for each other. What’s riskier: espionage or marriage?”

Glover and Erskine — the latter of whom replaces Phoebe Waller-Bridge after she amicably exited due to “creative differences” — are joined onscreen by Parker Posey, Wagner Moura, Michaela Coel, John Turturro, Paul Dano, Sarah Paulson, Alexander Skarsgård, and plenty more.

In addition to appearing on camera, Donald Glover has flexed his showrunner muscles post-Atlanta and Swarm; co-creating Mr & Mrs Smith (the TV series) alongside Francesca Sloane, as well as executive producing with his brother/creative partner Stephen Glover, longtime collaborator Hiro Murai, plus Sloane herself.

All 8 episodes of Amazon Prime Video’s Mr & Mrs Smith reboot series will be available to stream from February 2nd, 2024 — check out the trailer above.
