It’s been nearly a year since the frenzy of White Lotus‘ Season 2 came to a head, capturing the imaginations of audiences with its “rich people behaving badly” plotline that capitalised on the vacuum left by Succession. Unfortunately for fans of the show, delays in the production of White Lotus Season 3 means at least another year before the highly anticipated prequel arrives.
As reported by Variety, HBO and Max chairman/CEO Casey Bloys has confirmed that the planned 2024 scheduling of the third season is no longer feasible, citing the writers’ strike and ongoing actors’ strike as the reason for the delay. “White Lotus Season 3 probably would have been in play for 2024,” Bloys said during a press event in New York last week. Now, “It’s 2025.”
Despite the slightly lacklustre final episode of Season 2, it was easily one of the most popular shows of 2022, a sentiment that was reflected in the awards handed. From its immaculate Sicilian setting and wardrobe attention to detail, to the prosthetic schlong that got plenty of chins wagging, White Lotus is another slam dunk from the team at HBO.
It’s certainly disappointing to hear we’ll need to wait a minimum of 12 months till White Lotus Season 3 makes its debut (reportedly in Thailand), but perhaps the delays will only make the heart grow fonder.
