When it comes to screens, Samsung likes to push the limits in terms of form, scale, and functionality. Despite having previously acknowledged this fact here at BH on multiple occasions, their latest offering in gaming – dubbed the Samsung Odyssey G9 Curved Monitor – has still left us slack-jawed.

Full disclosure, I’m conflicted. On one hand, I recognise how OTT it may appear upon a first glance. On the other, I also want this insane 49-inch behemoth to be labelled “essential kit”, thereby becoming the set standard for gaming the world over. It’s like they say: if you’re going to do something – do it right.

Featuring unparalleled depth with Samsung HDR 1000, DQHD 5,120 x 1,440 resolution which achieves incredibly sharp imagery, an extremely rapid 240hz refresh rate, and 1ms response time – you’ll never want to take your eyes off the action.

On top of all this, the Odyssey G9 Curved Monitor also comes with G-Sync and FreeSync Premium Pro support. Translation – it’ll be sure to match every single frame from your graphics card, never missing a single beat. And the cherry on top? There’s even infinity core lighting to help it match the rest of your set-up – because why not.

Currently, pre-orders are open in the US for a hefty US$1,699.99. As for the Australian market, domestic prices have yet to be confirmed, nor any exact local release dates beyond the confirmation it’ll arrive “later this year“.

UPDATE [17/07/20]: The Samsung Odyssey G9 Curved Monitor is now available to pre-order starting today for $2,799 via Harvey Norman.
