A hot air balloon is set to take flight over Darling Harbour next month for the latest pop-up bar to sweep through Sydney, curated by the eccentric folks at Hendrick’s Gin.

The unusual sky-high gin bar – officially dubbed ‘The Most Unusual Balloon Bar”’ – will be open for Sydneysiders who book ahead of its maiden voyage on December 5th. A limited number of guests will float 30 metres above Tumbalong Park, and will be split across two sessions from 3 PM to 9 PM for the unique one-day-only experience. Better yet, it’s all free.

Hendricks’ hot air balloon bar is a big change from the flamboyant gin brand’s usual pop-up bars, which often spread across the country as a carnivalesque ‘Cabinet of Curiosities’ pop-up with various oddities hiding away in vintage closets, viewable through peep-holes. And while there won’t be anything left to the imagination with this new bar, guests will be able to have the rare opportunity to step aboard one of the few hot air balloon’s to ever fly in Sydney’s CBD.

Those keen to take part will need to be quick on the draw. Online bookings open at 9 AM AEST on Monday, 30th November, and will operate on a strict first-come, first-serve basis. Lucky punters who make it through to one of the slots have sky-high Hendrick’s G&Ts to look forward to, as well as a hamper full of assorted themed goodies. All this set against a view to rival the best of them, of course.

If heights aren’t your thing, Hendrick’s will also be hosting a Cucumber Bar anchored in Tumbalong Park, where guests can swoop in for a bespoke ‘Tini Martini’ and complimentary beverages from some of Sydney’s best bars, including PS40, Helm Bar, The Barbershop, Cafe Del Mar, Planar, Prince of York, The Swinging Cat, and The Sofitel’s Champagne Bar.
