Views of New York City’s Central Park are coveted for good reason, but when you see the spectacular vista available from the penthouse of billionaire real estate and casino mogul Steve Wynn, it’s clear that not all views are made equal. Situated at the very top of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel residences at 50 Central Park South, the penthouse serves up a rare and uninterrupted look across the Big Apple’s skyline as well as a remarkable art deco interior.

The building the penthouse sits atop was designed by the legendary architect Emery Roth in 1930, a gentleman who is responsible for dozens of distinct buildings across New York City, including The El Dorado, San Remo, the Beresford, the Ardsley and many more. Originally constructed as the famed Hotel St. Moritz, the building was once owned by Donald Trump, who sold the site to the unscrupulous Aussie billionaire Alan Bond, and is now managed by the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company.

Despite some renovations to the building that have taken place over the last few decades, the penthouse remains the jewel in the crown of the art deco tower, with the living room of the residence having once served as the spectacular ballroom of the Hotel St. Moritz. Boasting four bedrooms and six bathrooms (four full, two partial) across its two levels, the residence enjoys 10,875 square feet of floor space that are amplified by ceilings that reach fifteen-feet high.

As you’d expect from a home drenched in such old-world grandeur, every detail has been considered across the home, from the gently contoured staircase between levels and the chef’s kitchen with premium appliances, to the terraced breakfast room and 28-foot-long dining room that enjoys windows on three sides. The most spectacular view can be enjoyed from the park-facing terrace that stretches 45 feet along the facade of the building, serving up a perspective that takes in the length of Central Park.

After purchasing the property in 2012 for US$70 million in 2012, Steve Wynn has listed the penthouse with Sotheby’s International Realty for US$90 million (AU$126 million) in line with inflation. It’s not to be your first home purchase, but with such an incredible history and views across the city it’s unlikely to be on the market for long.
