It’s not entirely uncommon for the superyacht of a billionaire to feature a modestly sized personal submarine, offering guests the opportunity for a little underwater exploration between the hours lounging on the sun deck. However, we’ve not yet seen a luxury vessel that can adventure both below and above the water’s surface until this week, with the announcement of the Nautilus Submarine Yacht.

Truly the best of both worlds, this concept vessel was announced by the team at U-Boat Worx aims to deliver the luxurious cruising capabilities of a 37.5-metre superyacht, but with the benefit of being able to seal itself up and dive down to a depth of 150 metres below the waves. It’s an ambitious project, to say the least, but the Dutch submersible manufacturer appears to be quite confident in its abilities to develop such a vessel and has announced more specs than we’ve seen for the Tesla Cybertruck (reportedly due in a few months) and intends to power it via a diesel-electric propulsion system.

With a projected surface cruising speed of nine knots and a submerged speed of four knots, when underwater it’ll have a range of around 100 nautical miles or 12 hours, while above the water that cruising range extends to an impressive 3,200 nautical miles. It’ll feature all the external luxuries you’d expect from a yacht of its size, such as a freshwater pool, bar, and large lounge area, while the interior boasts five cabins including a master stateroom, cabins for seven crew and a dining and lounge space of 50 square metres.

When it comes to these cutting-edge vessels, a concept is always one thing (no matter how detailed it is), but bringing it to life is another entirely. We’ll have to wait and see if the boatbuilder is able to attract a client to build the Nautilus Submarine Yacht, but if they are able to do it, it will set a new benchmark for open water enjoyment and exploration.
