It was only a little over a year ago that multihyphenate creative Pharrell Williams was announced as the new men’s creative director of Louis Vuitton, yet already Williams is stretching his legs across the LVMH portfolio.

Following his debut and sophomore collections at LV, the musician-slash-designer has unveiled a 19-piece Tiffany & Co jewellery collection showcasing “beauty in blackness”, entitled ‘Tiffany Titan’.

Drawing inspiration from the trident of the mythical Greek deity Poseidon, Williams’ strikingly spiky designs are crafted from 18k recycled yellow gold; along with titanium that’s been blackened by a special molecular process. This play of contrasts is baked into the Tiffany Titan collection, with darkened titanium offering a striking visual departure from yellow gold; while pointed trident motifs are balanced by the contours of chain links.

“I’m very inspired by the water, and the name of this collection “Titan” draws inspiration from Poseidon, ruler of the sea, King of Atlantis – “Atlantis” which is also the name of the community I grew up in Virginia Beach,” said Williams in a statement. “The detail in all of the jewellery pieces is very intentional, the use of black titanium…it’s a physical manifestation of beauty in blackness.”

All of the aesthetic tension Pharrell sought to bring to his first collection for Tiffany & Co. has been brought to life by the brand’s jewellers in an array of product categories. To that end, the Tiffany Titan collection includes an array of original necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and rings – each infused with Pharrell’s upbeat, iconoclastic spirit.

The collection also features several highly sophisticated displays of craftsmanship: including pavé pieces that boast reverse-set diamonds, in order to better highlight the cut and brilliance of these gemstones. The use of titanium adds a distinctive touch, with its subdued reflective quality making a powerful statement that sets these designs apart from more traditional jewellery.

“We are excited to unveil Pharrell’s inaugural collection for Tiffany. The Tiffany Titan by Pharrell Williams collection defies the conventions of fine jewellery design. It represents a balance of Pharrell’s creative vision with Tiffany & Co.’s inventive craftsmanship,” said Alexandre Arnault, Executive Vice President, Product, Communications and Industrial, at Tiffany & Co. “Each piece embodies Pharrell’s distinct style and unique point of view.”

The Tiffany Titan collection will be available online (via Tiffany & Co’s US-based webstore) and at The Landmark in New York beginning in May. For the rest of us, expect global rollout of Pharrell’s new line to commence in June.
