Perth being home to Australia’s richest postcode hasn’t necessarily translated into an equal concentration of good taste. There are, however, a few gems that exist along the coast. One such home is Bedfordale House, located at 4 Dmietrieff Rd, Bedfordale, which has recently arrived on the market as one of the most impressive properties in the entire state. Yes… you read that correctly.

Located on four titles that cover 20 hectares of thoughtfully landscaped grounds, Bedfordale House was completed in 2014 and quickly gained the attention of Australia’s architectural intelligentsia. By the end of 2015, it had no less than eleven awards from Australian Home of the Year and Most Liveable Home to the Australian Custom Build Home of the Year and National People’s Choice Award.

Suffice it to say, this residence took the industry by storm. Not only because of the care and attention that went into its planning and construction, but also due to the tranquillity which permeates throughout the entire property; surrounded by interconnected ponds, pavilions, and courtyards. Stress and anxiety simply melts away in the face of this joint’s very tangible serenity (both indoors and out).

Situated just 45 minutes from the heart of Perth, 4 Dmietrieff Rd, Bedfordale, offers four bedrooms and four bathrooms with space to park six cars. It was designed by the renowned architect Suzanne Hunt (alongside specialist builder Gransden Construction) with direction from its original owner to craft a home rich with Japanese architectural details they could enjoy in their retirement.

Hunt executed the brief to perfection, with the residence effectively a series of smaller structures connected via hallways, creating a number of enclosed courtyards while also maximising the amount of light that enters the home. The dwelling also features a basement and detached guest house, but the most impressive feature is undoubtedly the 23-metre indoor pool — complete with a scattered array of starlights on the ceiling that’s reminiscent of a Rolls-Royce interior.

It’s a home you could write thousands of words about, but I’ll let the images of 4 Dmietrieff Rd, Bedfordale, do the talking (make sure you check out this gallery too). Currently being handled by the team at Porteous, Domain estimates suggest a price guide of $10 million. Viewings are by appointment only.
