TAG Heuer’s Latest Timepieces Honour Ayrton Senna

Formula 1 racecar driver Ayrton Senna is without a doubt one of the most successful and beloved figures in motorsport. With a stunning 41 Grand Prix wins and three overall World Drivers’ Championship wins in 1988, 1990, and 1991, Senna had a cool and calm winning spirit that made him a great choice for a brand ambassador for motorsports-tied watch brand TAG Heuer in 1991. Unfortunately, the collaboration ended when Senna tragically lost his life at the San Marino Grand Prix in 1994.

Though Senna himself only had the opportunity to work on one TAG Heuer model before his untimely death, the brand has helped keep his legacy alive with the periodic release of timepieces in his honour. The latest of these include the Carrera Calibre Heuer 02 Chronograph Automatic and the Carrera Heuer 02 Tourbillon Chronograph Chronometer.

Housed in a 43 mm case, the Carrera Calibre Heuer 02 Chronograph Automatic featured in steel with a ceramic bezel is printed with Senna’s name and ‘S’ logo. The same logo also appears at the center of the chronograph’s hour subdial. The movement comes on a similar steel bracelet made from S-shaped links, the same style Senna favoured for his own timepieces and starts at $6,350 USD.

Sitting slightly larger at 45 mm, the Carrera Heuer 02 Tourbillon Chronograph Chronometer is limited to just 175 pieces, unlike the aforementioned production model. This watch features a visible tourbillion at six o’clock and is powered by a certified chronometer movement. Available on a unique matte black leather and rubber strap with red stitching, the limited-edition is priced at $21,000.

Both new Tag Heuer Senna watches are currently available for purchase through their website.
