  • Having soundly conquered all things eating in, Uber has now set its sights beyond the couch with the global launch of ‘Dine Out’ in Sydney.
  • The new platform feature, unveiled at the fifth annual GO-GET in New York City, entails in-person dining deals as well as transport to and from restaurants.
  • Uber One members can also enjoy exclusive reservation privileges, thanks to Uber’s recently announced partnership with OpenTable.

Sydney is now serving as Uber’s debut test case for ‘Dine Out’ – a brand new platform feature that allows users to claim in-person dining deals and, of course, book a ride to/from beloved restaurants.

OpenTable has teamed up with the rideshare company to power dining reservations on the app, offering Uber One members exclusive access to the best tables in town. OpenTable members can also spend their points on both Uber and Uber Eats.

“It’s a thrill and privilege for Australia to be the first market anywhere in the world to test and finesse the new Dine Out product – one we know will benefit restaurants and bring additional convenience and value to Sydney-siders and visitors alike,” said Ed Kitchen, Managing Director of Uber Eats (ANZ).

“I am proud to be able to launch this technology for Australian small business owners in Sydney first, though as a proud Melburnian I’ve assured my friends and family that the plan is to launch in Victoria in the coming months.”

So, precisely which restaurants are on board for this tasty experiment?

An entire spectrum of dining partners representing a range of cuisines and price points have gotten involved – including iconic Sydney establishments like Fabbrica, Employees Only, Raw Bar, Malabar, Wings & Tins, Nel. Restaurant, Gildas, The Restaurant Pendolino, Chester White Cured Diner, Ace Hotel’s Lobby Bar, Centro 86, Arthur’s Pizza, The Cottage Balmain, Mary’s, as well as the one and only Catalina.

Judy McMahon, proprietor of Catalina Rose Bay, noted: “Winter is always going to be quieter, but maybe this year with Uber’s Dine Out technology it will be different. I anticipate a lot of the clientele using this feature will be new or younger, and that appeals to me.”

To Celebrate The Global Launch, Uber Eats Is Opening A Free Restaurant

House of Eats – a one-night-only immersive dining event curated by acclaimed chef Danielle Alvarez – will be hosted at Darlinghurst’s Rainbow Studios on August 8th, 2025, across two distinct sittings (5 PM to 7:30 PM, 8:30 PM to 11 PM).

The pop-up feast is set to serve a four-course degustation featuring exclusive dishes from top eateries like Catalina, Fabbrica, and Mary’s, paired with P&V wines. While seats are free, they are still limited – and will only be released in pairs via Humanitix from July 29th at 9 AM (AEST). First-come, first-serve, of course.

For those who miss out, Uber Eats is also offering a consolation treat on August 9th (8 AM to 10 AM) with Harry’s Bondi, giving away complimentary breakfasts of a lemon and ricotta croissant topped with white chocolate and pistachio drizzle, plus a special canned matcha. Which certainly beats an empty stomach.

Keep an eye out for the Uber Dine Out feature on your apps, Sydneysiders. And as for the rest of the country (and the rest of the world), just remember that patience is a virtue rewarded in spades.
