While your first impression of Hublot might be big and bold, when it comes to material science and innovation, there’s almost no other watchmaker in the world working at the same level. For the Nyon-based watchmaker’s latest high-end novelty, the Hublot Big Bang Tourbillon Yellow Neon Saxem uses a material process typically reserved for satellite technology to create a remarkable sapphire crystal case in a vibrant yellow hue.

Requiring no less then three years of research, Sapphire Aluminium oXide and rare Earth Mineral or Saxam, is a fusion of the aluminium oxide found in sapphire crystal and rare earth elements including thulium, holmium and chromium. Not only does this alloy allow for the specific shade of almost fluorescent yellow to be seen from any angle, but it also makes the sapphire crystal remarkably strong and resistant to shattering, a critical factor for a watch to be worn every day.

While the material composition of the case is exceptional, the technical features of the HUB6035 self-winding Manufacture movement are equally impressive. Boasting a micro rotor that offers up to 72 hours of power reserve on the dial side beneath the hands at 12 o’clock, while visual balance is maintained thanks to the spinning tourbillon cage at 6 o’clock.

“It has taken us almost three years of research, after the MP-11 Emerald Green, to develop a new colour fit for our Big Bang and that would be totally transparent and completely resistant,” explained Hublot’s CEO, Ricardo Guadalupe. “Once again, Hublot is pushing the possibilities of technology and aesthetics and fuses them to create a unique neon yellow manufacture piece.”

Measuring 44mm in diameter and arriving on a matching transparent neon yellow rubber strap, the watch is guaranteed 50m of water resistance. Arriving as a limited edition of just 50 pieces worldwide, the Hublot Big Bang Tourbillon Yellow Neon Saxem has an RRP of $294,000.
