This year, the James Bond film franchise is celebrating its 60th anniversary and Omega has marked the milestone with the release of the all-new Seamaster Diver 300m 60th Anniversary Edition. Taking much of its design from the wildly popular No Time To Die Seamaster 300M Diver (NTTD) from 2020, the stainless steel diving watch hits all the right spots to be another future classic.

The partnership between James Bond and Omega began back in 1995, when watch industry legend Jean-Claude Biver put a Seamaster on the wrist of Pierce Brosnan for GoldenEye, beginning the tradition of MI-6’s most capable operative being an Omega man. The specific Seamaster the Brosnan wore in the mid-90s was a blue quartz diver with a wave-motif dial, which is the original source of inspiration for the new 60th Anniversary Edition.

Featuring a 42mm stainless steel case that measures 13.15mm in thickness, it’s shape is firmly rooted in contemporary Seamaster design thanks to its sweeping lugs (precisely rendered with razor sharp lines between the polished and brushed surfaces) and 300m of water resistance. It’s blue aluminium bezel is a nod to the NTTD Seamaster, while the matching blue dial with its wave pattern are inspired by the GoldenEye timepiece and offer an ideal backdrop for the crisp white hands and hour markers.

The dial doesn’t feature a date complication, which goes a long way to balancing its symmetry (just like the NTTD Seamaster), while the lollipop seconds hand is a new distinctive feature on the dial. Flipping the watch over and we’re greeted by an exhibition caseback with an image of Bond’s iconic silhouette staring down the barrel of a gun, which is a subtle reminder of the inspiration of the watch just in case you forget.

Another great feature of the Omega Seamaster 60th Anniversary James Bond is the stainless steel woven mesh bracelet it arrives on, which features a very similar design to the titanium bracelet on the NTTD Seamaster. With straight end links and a folding clasp to secure it, it’s distinct from regular Seamasters while also having a healthy dose of vintage feel to it, but if you’d prefer something else the watch is also available with a special blue fabric NATO strap.

Beneath the graphic on the caseback is the Omega 8806 caliber, which has all the bells and whistles you’d expect from Omega today. The movement is METAS Master Chronometer certified, boasts antimagnetic properties up to 15,000 gauss and has 55 hours of power reserve when fully wound.

In a clever fusion of design cues from the GoldenEye and No Time To Die Seamaster watches, this latest special edition Bond watch artfully walks the tightrope of the more than two and a half decades between the two films. By incorporating elements from both timepieces, Omega properly pays tribute to the legacy and relationship that is has with the world’s most famous spy.

The new Omega Seamaster 60th Anniversary James Bond thankfully isn’t a limited edition and will be available from Omega boutiques in Australia with an RRP of $11,550.
