With more than a century and a half of history behind it, Tissot has earned its spot as one of the world’s most famous Swiss watchmakers. Known for making some of the best value watches in the game, Tissot has a range of different offerings that cycle from faithfully heritage-inspired to thoroughly contemporary.

Today, the Tissot PRX collection is undoubtedly the brand’s most popular in Australia — celebrated by collectors and enthusiasts alike for its retro shape, comfortably integrated bracelet and case, as well as the wide range of dial colours that are available. However, that doesn’t mean you should overlook collections such as the Heritage or Gentleman, both of which deliver strong designs and cutting-edge movements.

So if you’re considering a Tissot as your next (or perhaps first) watch purchase, let’s take a look at some of the best watches created by the brand today.

Note that the below list is not ranked.

Boss Hunting’s Favourite Tissot Watch

Tissot PRX Powermatic 80

Tissot PRX Powermatic 80

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Case Diameter: 40mm
  • Case Thickness: 10.9mm
  • Case Material: Steel
  • Bezel Material: Steel
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Steel
  • Dial Colour: Blue
  • Water Resistance: 100m
  • Movement: Powermatic 80
  • Power Reserve: 80 hours

Simply put, the Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 has easily been the most popular affordable watch released in the last few years (the only challenger might be the Omega x Swatch Moonswatch). You can see why enthusiasts love it — from the comfortable 40mm case (which has been kept relatively slender) and the 100m water resistance, to its angular 70s-inspired case and robust automatic movement — the collection is a serious contender for the perfect “first ‘serious’ watch”.

The Best Tissot Watches In 2024

1. Tissot Heritage 1938 Automatic COSC

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Case Diameter: 39mm
  • Case Thickness: 11.1mm
  • Case Material: Steel
  • Bezel Material: Steel
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Synthetic embossed cow leather
  • Dial Colour: Salmon
  • Water Resistance: 50m
  • Movement: COSC-certified 2824-2
  • Power Reserve: 38 hours

The Tissot Heritage 1938 Automatic COSC is a new release for 2023, but one that shows the Le Locle-based watchmaker is paying extremely close attention to what collectors want.

With a heritage-inspired 39mm case size, an attractive matte salmon dial and an automatic movement, it’s a seriously handsome bit of kit — one that doesn’t look at all like your grandfather’s watch.

2. Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 35mm

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Case Diameter: 40mm
  • Case Thickness: 10.9mm
  • Case Material: Steel
  • Bezel Material: Steel
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Steel
  • Dial Colour: Ice Blue
  • Water Resistance: 100m
  • Movement: Powermatic 80
  • Power Reserve: 80 hours

As much as the 40mm Tissot PRX was a slam dunk for most collectors, the design of its bracelet meant those with smaller wrists weren’t able to enjoy it quite as much. In response, Tissot announced the release of the PRX Powermatic 80 in a 35mm size, boasting the same proportions (apart from thickness), the same movement and a fantastic range of dial options.

3. Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Case Diameter: 40mm
  • Case Thickness: 11.5mm
  • Case Material: Steel
  • Bezel Material: Steel
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Steel
  • Dial Colour: Blue
  • Water Resistance: 100m
  • Movement: Powermatic 80
  • Power Reserve: 80 hours

If there was any watch that might be the perfect birthday gift for a 21st, it’s the Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80. With a classic design, 40mm steel case and matching bracelet, solid movement and 100m of water resistance, it’s very hard to find something better for the money.

Tissot’s press images do a decent job of rendering the watch, but trust me: it looks even better in real life, so make sure you see it in the metal before deciding against it.

4. Tissot Chemin des Tourelles Powermatic 80

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Case Diameter: 42mm
  • Case Thickness: 10.9mm
  • Case Material: Steel
  • Bezel Material: Steel
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Steel
  • Dial Colour: Blue
  • Water Resistance: 50m
  • Movement: Powermatic 80
  • Power Reserve: 80 hours

For those who prefer their watches detail-rich with a touch of classicism, the Tissot Chemin des Tourelles Powermatic 80 line-up is an excellent option. With a subtly textured dial design, symmetrically balanced date window at 6 o’clock, workhorse movement and a comfortable bracelet, it’s the kind of watch you could wear with a tuxedo as well as jeans and a t-shirt.

5. Tissot Heritage Memphis

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Case Diameter: 41mm
  • Case Thickness: 8.3mm
  • Case Material: Steel
  • Bezel Material: Steel with  yellow gold PVD coating
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Synthetic leather
  • Dial Colour: White
  • Water Resistance: 50m
  • Movement: Quartz
  • Power Reserve: 3 years of battery life

Quick history lesson: The postmodern “Memphis” design movement was founded in 1980, by Italian architect and designer Ettore Sottsass.

Tissot nicely captures the movement’s obsession with vibrant design and quirky geometry in the Heritage Memphis. It’s a polarising design, yet one we love all the more for its strong creative perspective.

6. Tissot PRX Chronograh

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Case Diameter: 42mm
  • Case Thickness: 14.5mm
  • Case Material: Steel
  • Bezel Material: Steel
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Steel
  • Dial Colour: Silver
  • Water Resistance: 100m
  • Movement: Valjoux A05 H31
  • Power Reserve: 60 hours

With the rampant popularity of the time-only PRX collection, the addition of a sporty complication to the line-up is a smart move from Tissot, nicely translating the angular case shape into a three-register chronograph.

Full disclosure: the dreaded off-kilter date window at 4:30 might irk some, but overall, this is a clean design with a brushed dial treatment that works well alongside the finishing of the case and bracelet. If you’re after the big sibling of the original PRX, this chronograph is the one to get.

7. Tissot Sideral S Powermatic 80

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Case Diameter: 41mm
  • Case Thickness: 14.4mm
  • Case Material: Steel with black and blue marbled forged carbon
  • Bezel Material: Steel
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Rubber
  • Dial Colour: Black
  • Water Resistance: 100m
  • Movement: Powermatic 80
  • Power Reserve: 80 hours

Drawing inspiration from vintage regatta timers, the Tissot Sideral S Powermatic 80 is a sporty addition to the collection that nobody had on their watch-related bingo card for 2023.

The timing dial and bezel tracks already register as delightful details on their own, but it’s the coloured, forged carbon outer case that steals the show as a lightweight material choice that catapults the design into the 21st century. For its price, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better summer watch (especially with blue, red and yellow all on the menu).

8. Tissot Heritage Visodate Powermatic 80

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Case Diameter: 42mm
  • Case Thickness: 12.1mm
  • Case Material: Steel
  • Bezel Material: Steel
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Steel
  • Dial Colour: Cream
  • Water Resistance: 30m
  • Movement: Powermatic 80
  • Power Reserve: 80 hours

From every angle, the Heritage Visodate is a charming dress watch. From its vintage Tissot logo and Visodate font, to the twisted lyre lugs and straight end-link mesh bracelet, it’s the complete package that’s only made more compelling with its 80 hours of power reserve.

9. Tissot Seastar 1000

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Case Diameter: 40mm
  • Case Thickness: 10mm
  • Case Material: Steel
  • Bezel Material: Steel with yellow gold PVD coating
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Steel with yellow gold PVD coating
  • Dial Colour: Black
  • Water Resistance: 300m
  • Movement: Quartz
  • Power Reserve: 3 years of battery life

There’s little doubt that two-tone watches have been making a comeback over the last couple of years, and this expression of the Tissot Seastar 1000 looks great with a PVD-coated bracelet and bezel highlights.

Measuring 40mm x 10mm, the case dimensions are also ideal for a range of differently-sized wrists.

10. Tissot Telemeter 1938 Chronograph

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Case Diameter: 42mm
  • Case Thickness: 13.9mm
  • Case Material: Steel
  • Bezel Material: Steel
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Synthetic cow leather
  • Dial Colour: Two-tone silver and white
  • Water Resistance: 30m
  • Movement: Valjoux A05.231
  • Power Reserve: 68 hours

When it comes to faithful heritage reissues, Tissot (alongside its Swatch Group stablemate Longines), is widely regarded as one of the best watch brands in Switzerland; and this Telemeter 1938 Chronograph finely illustrates why.

To be sure, the case is a little larger than what might have been common in the late 1930s, but the dial is in keeping with the wonderful multi-track executions of the era: two registers, a snailed telemeter scale, and nary a date window to be seen. Cracking stuff.

11. Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80 Silicium Two-Tone

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Case Diameter: 40mm
  • Case Thickness: 10.6mm
  • Case Material: Steel
  • Bezel Material: Rose gold 18k
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Steel
  • Dial Colour: Silver
  • Water Resistance: 50m
  • Movement: Powermatic 80
  • Power Reserve: 80 hours

While we’re fans of the full steel references from the Gentleman collection, those looking for a little bling in their life will love the version with a solid rose gold bezel.

Yes, you read that right: no PVD coating in sight. Just a precious metal bezel, framing the sunburst brushed silver dial, with matching rose gold highlights.

The perfect daily wearer for anybody who enjoys dressing sartorially on the regular.

12. Tissot Seastar 2000 Professional Powermatic 80

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Case Diameter: 46mm
  • Case Thickness: 16.3mm
  • Case Material: Steel with black PVD coating
  • Bezel Material: Steel with black PVD coating
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Rubber
  • Dial Colour: Blue
  • Water Resistance: 600m
  • Movement: Powermatic 80
  • Power Reserve: 80 hours

If you’re after a little more robustness than what the Seastar 1000 is capable of offering, its big sibling the Seastar 2000 Professional has you covered. A hulking 46mm case and no less than 600m of water resistance are the highlights.

The dial features an attractive wave motif, the rubber strap is very comfortable on the wrist and the Superluminova hands and hour markers are made for any lighting conditions — truly, a diver made for professional specifications.

13. Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80 Open Heart

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Case Diameter: 40mm
  • Case Thickness: 11.5mm
  • Case Material: Steel
  • Bezel Material: Steel
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Steel
  • Dial Colour: Blue
  • Water Resistance: 100m
  • Movement: Powermatic 80
  • Power Reserve: 80 hours

For those who need to show (an as yet unconverted friend) the difference between quartz and mechanical tickers, the Gentleman Powermatic 80 Open Heart is all you need, featuring a dial that exposes the endlessly oscillating escapement within.

It’s got the same eye-catching blue dial as the solid dial equivalent, and the same robust power reserve, but the beating heart of the watch is undeniably the highlight here.

14. Tissot PRX Digital

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Case Diameter: 40mm
  • Case Thickness: 10.9mm
  • Case Material: Steel with yellow gold PVD coating
  • Bezel Material: Steel with yellow gold PVD coating
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Steel with yellow gold PVD coating
  • Dial Colour: Gold with mirror finish
  • Water Resistance: 100m
  • Movement: Quartz calibre 4012
  • Power Reserve: 3 years of battery life

Considering that the PRX is almost copy-pasted out of the late 1970s, it makes perfect sense that Tissot would offer collectors a digital expression of this already retro design.

Boasting multiple timezones, date, day, and stopwatch functions, it’s a fun release that can handle anything you require of it — even dives of up to 100m.

How We Chose The Best Tissot Watches

After collecting and writing about watches for more than half a decade, I’ve owned a number of Tissot timepieces over the years. In fact, the first mechanical watch I owned was a Tissot Powermatic 80, and I’ve been a bit fan of what the brand has released in recent years.

If you’ve got any specific questions about these watches or my personal experience with Tissot, don’t hesitate to reach out directly to me via email or Instagram.
