  • Piaget has revealed its latest special release as the Andy Warhol Watch Collage Limited Edition, cased in yellow gold and featuring an unforgettable dial.
  • The dial is crafted from a mosaic of hard stones, including black onyx, yellow serpentine, pink opal, and green chrysoprase.
  • Restricted to just 50 pieces, the Piaget Andy Warhol Watch Collage Limited Edition arrives with an Australian RRP of $128,000.

When most people hear โ€œPiaget,โ€ their mind immediately goes to the Polo collection. But my favourite line-up from the brand today? The Andy Warhol collection (previously known as the Piaget Black Tie), thanks to its stepped gold cases, ultra-thin movements, and exquisite hardstone dials.

Now, the collection welcomes a new member to the family with the arrival of the Piaget Andy Warhol Watch Collage Limited Edition.

This watch isnโ€™t just another limited edition โ€“ itโ€™s the first to be produced in direct collaboration with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, and draws inspiration from the โ€œCollageโ€ self-portrait artwork that Warhol created in 1986.

Cased in yellow gold, it measures 45mm wide and a very slight 8.08mm in thickness, making this a watch with undeniable presence on the wristโ€ฆ but not one that needs to dominate and can easily slip under a shirt cuff. This is possible thanks to the wafer-like in-house 501P1 automatic movement that powers the watch, which itself is 3.63mm thick while offering 40 hours of power reserve.

The dial, however, is the real star of the show: crafted as a meticulously cut collage of black onyx, yellow serpentine, pink opal, and green chrysoprase to an unforgettable effect. The brightly coloured hardstones contrast beautifully against their onyx canvas, creating an eye-catching visual without needing the glint and glimmer of faceted gemstones.

On the caseback of the watch is another nod to Andy Warhol himself, featuring a laser-engraved outline of Warholโ€™s original image and his signature, further underscoring the significance of the pop artist to Piaget as a watchmaker. Paired with the watch is a green alligator strap thatโ€™s secured with a yellow gold pin buckle matching the case.

Iโ€™ve long been a fan of this collection (especially its piece unique releases), though this might be one of the best Iโ€™ve ever seen โ€“ not only because of its links to Warhol, but also the level of mastery and technique required to create a dial so seamless with six individual sheets of hardstone. Unsurprisingly, this 50-piece limited edition arrives with an Australian RRP of $128,000.
